    Routes and contributions

Understand the difference between the real climb, its canonical record and the artifacts attached to it.

These docs explain the product in plain language. Binding contributor, privacy, payment and other legal terms control if there is a conflict.

    One route, many contributions

A route is the canonical record of a physical climb. It can be corrected and enriched over time without losing its identity or history.

A contribution is a specific piece of work attached to that record. Each contribution has its own creator, timestamp, source, review state and version history.

    What can be contributed

    • Historical facts, including the route developer and first ascent where reliably known.
    • Location, line, grade, style, holds and access metadata.
    • Photo sets, source scans, point clouds and processed 3D models.
    • 4D beta performances, narrated sequences and coaching explanations.
    • Corrections, verification reports, conditions and access updates.

    Attribution is not ownership

Developing a route, first documenting it on Betabace and producing a scan are different contributions. Betabace records each role separately instead of using a single ambiguous author field.

No contributor can prevent other people from adding independent beta, improving shared facts or proposing a better model. Original files and creative media remain subject to their own rights and licences.
