Scanning a route well
Capture a route so it can become a useful, trustworthy 3D model.
These docs explain the product in plain language. Binding contributor, privacy, payment and other legal terms control if there is a conflict.
A useful scan
A useful scan covers the full climb and enough surrounding rock to establish scale and orientation. It should contain overlapping views, stable focus and consistent lighting wherever possible.
- Capture the start, finish and both sides of the climb.
- Move steadily and keep strong overlap between neighbouring views.
- Avoid people, loose equipment and fast-changing shadows in the reconstruction area.
- Include scale and orientation information when the capture workflow requests it.
- Review the draft before leaving the crag and fill obvious coverage gaps.
Quality is measured, not assumed
A successful upload is not automatically a successful model. Betabace may measure coverage, alignment, scale confidence, texture clarity and whether key route features can be inspected.
Improving an existing model
A later scan may replace the displayed model when it is materially better. The earlier scanner keeps founding credit and the contribution remains in the route history; the currently useful artifact receives the current-use attribution.
