What Betabace is
A shared map of climbing knowledge with 3D routes and time-based beta built by climbers.
These docs explain the product in plain language. Binding contributor, privacy, payment and other legal terms control if there is a conflict.
The short version
Betabace is a living, spatial guide to climbing. It connects real-world climbs with structured route information, detailed 3D representations and beta that can be understood through space and time.
The collection is built collaboratively. A route page does not belong to a single uploader; it brings together the work of route developers, scanners, editors, beta creators, reviewers and local stewards while preserving who contributed what.
What we are building
- A worldwide hierarchy of areas, sectors, boulders and routes.
- Accurate route metadata, access information and community grade consensus.
- Source scans and navigable 3D models of real rock.
- 4D beta: climbing movement recorded over time and aligned with the route in 3D.
- A permanent contribution history that gives credit without turning physical climbs into private property.
The principle
Climbing knowledge is strongest when it is shared, inspectable and kept current. Original media and skilled creative work still deserve clear ownership, attribution and, when a rewards programme applies, the opportunity to earn.
Betabace is a commons of climbing knowledge with a creator economy layered on top—not a marketplace for claiming ownership of physical routes.
